The Atlantic Giant Cockle, Dinocardium robustum is one of the largest shallow-water bivalves found along the Atlantic coast reaching about 125 mm (6 inches). It is one among eight species of the family Cardiidae present along the shores of the Atlantic Coast. Its shell is characterized by smooth, rounded radial ribs, usually numbering between 30 and 40 in adult individuals.

All of our product specimens are in their natural organic state and have not been cleaned with any cleaning chemicals or acids.  All products have not been polished or oiled in any way.  All products may contain beach sand and may have a residual organic odor.  Products left in their natural state intentionally allowing buyer to treat, clean, oil, polish or sanitize to their own desires.  You can bring out the natural beauty by applying a thin coating of mineral oil which will give the specimen a shine or glossy finish for a wet appearance which will last for quite a while but will eventually need to be reapplied to maintain the vibrant sheen or for a more permanent option you can coat with polyurethane.
