Acme Made Montgomery Street Photo Backpack (Excellent ++++)

Description

Finding a small, multi-purpose backpack that can serve as a daily carry for a small laptop or tablet, a camera, maybe a jacket, and lunch is hard to find. Most manufacturers turn this size into a sling or a shoulder bag. Fortunately, San Francisco-based Acme Made did not. (If you’re not familiar, Acme Made is a small manufacturer of high quality bags. Most of their products are not designed for photographers.)
No bag I’ve owned has generated more comments from friends and colleagues than this Montgomery Street backpack. At least three of them (including my boss) also now own one. Acme Made used a very durable yet attractive material for the exterior along with a soft partially-quilted yellow interior. Camera access is from an easily accessible side door. There is a lens compartment inside the main compartment along with room for other items. If you’re not carrying a camera or spare lens, both compartments collapse flat against the interior of the bag allowing the entire main compartment to be used for something else. A separate laptop compartment holds an iPad or a 13” MacBook. It is one of the most clever bags I’ve used.
The camera compartment holds my Fujifilm X-T3 with attached XF 16-55 with no problem. The interior lens compartment holds a lens about half an inch longer and 1 ½ inches greater in diameter than a 12 oz can of soda. (These are approximations.) My XF 50-140 fits nicely in the interior space next to the camera and lens compartments.
The Montgomery Street Backpack is now discontinued and very difficult to find. As you can see from my own product images of this particular bag taken on the black gridded cutting mat, it looks brand new. A few light scratches on the metal Acme Made logo are the only hint that it didn’t just come out of its packaging for the first time. The product images on a white background were produced by Acme Made to show the bag in use. (Not visible in these images is the top door of the lens compartment that velcros shut to keep your lens protected and secure.) Note that no cameras, lenses, fruit, or other sample contents shown in these images are included as part of the sale.
