PAIR-OLD VINTAGE FRAMED SEASHELLS - IN SOLID OAK SHADOW BOX FRAMES
I.
Atlantic Calico Scallop
has about 20 radial ribs and the exterior coloration is a Mottled pattern of Purple and Pinkish Burgundy on a Cream Background.  Lower valve is whitish with small purple spotting.  Interior is white with beige coloration.  The eye-catching color of shells of this species gave rise to its popular name "calico" which was for many years an inexpensive fabric printed with small flower patterns.

Condition:  Shell - Looks Nearly Excellent
Glass needs to be cleaned on both sides...Matte has foxing.
II. Pink Murex  -or-  Pink Throat Murex Seashell:

] have different forms of ornamentation.
This shell is very strong and covered with spines and is popular collectors items.  The exterior color is white...with bits of beige and pinkish white, and the polished aperture (opening to the shell) has a pinkish tint.

Condition:  Shell is Nearly Excellent.
Glass is broken...Matte and has foxing spots.
Frames are Solid Oak - Pecan Color - Identical Size

Age of Shells
We do not know the exact age...We've owned the two 41 years...They were gifted to us by a beach house owner-shell collector in 1979 when we rented his house for vacation.  He surprised us and had the shells framed in the Oak Shadow Boxes in MA in 1979.
